Hong Kong Free Surfer Surf Festival November 2-3 2024

With the surf ban in our local beaches, you would think a surf competition can happen in Hong Kong? Well, think again.

The Hong Kong Free Surfer Surf Festival was the initiative of Jay & Karen and some die-hard local surfers. It's main goal is to create unity, mindfulness and spread knowledge & awareness towards the HK local scene.

After the pandemic the  Hong Kong surf scene has gained so much popularity, but a couple of drownings and near-death experiences for both swimmers, beginner surfers and lifeguards has put the sport in bad light.

The 2-day event was held in Tai Long Wan and attracted surfers from United States, France, Japan, China, Hong Kong, South Africa, Australia, UK, and the Philippines. The atmosphere was good and there was a lot of smiles, shakas and good vibes.
During the first day of the event the waves were quite small but playful  enough to get things going.

The waves showed up on the 2nd, with swell up to 6ft and slight to almost no wind, the promising conditions  got the surfers going to give the crowd a good show.
